Dr. Lavetta Collins

Dr. Collins received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from Claflin University, Master of Education in Educational School Leadership from American College of Education, and a Doctorate in Chiropractic from Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic. She has 19 years of experience in the educational field to include being a High School Science Teacher and an Assistant Principal and 8 years as an Online Tutor. Dr. Collins has taught and tutored an array of science courses to include AP Chemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology, Foods and Nutrition, Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, Environmental Science, and Astronomy. As a tutor, she would like to promote the success of all students by advocating, nurturing and sustaining an instructional program conducive to student learning. Her vision centers on a shared philosophy that educators must serve the diverse student body with a personalized plan for all students beginning at their current academic level and guiding them to be fully prepared and ready to become contributing members of society. She is personally enthused and determined to grow every child, every day based on their unique learning profiles. She believes that quality education is based on how we assess student learning through equitable approaches. This requires competency-based practices that result in deeper learning outcomes for students as they engage in application, analysis, and evaluation of academic content to prepare for success. On a personal note, Dr. Collins is a wife and the mother of two remarkable children. She lives by the quote of J. Sidlow Baxter, “What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity.
